A wreath-laying event commemorated the end of World War II.
It was 74 years ago on May 9th that the Second World War came to an end in the European war-theatre.
True to tradition, both the civilian and the military victims were commemorated in several places in Debrecen. Mr. János Mazsu, alderman at Debrecen’s Council, historian by profession, made a memorial speech. Commemorations continued in the municipal cemetery where the Russian heroes’ monument was saluted by many. The series of commemorations were concluded in Bocskai square by laying a wreath on the monument of Rumanian soldiers who fell in the war.
