Endre Ady commemorated in Debrecen and Nagyvárad (Oradea)
The two cities, Debrecen and Nagyvárad (Oradea) commemorate the poet Endre Ady together, for the reason that both cities played a remarkable role in the life of the poet of very high standing in Hungarian literary history.
The person of the poet who died 100 years ago links Debrecen and Nagyvárad (Oradea) in numberless ways. On the occasion of the centennial anniversary both cities have arranged for a series of commemorations. The details were given out at a press-meeting on Jnuary 28, 2019, in the very building, the ’’Angol Királynő Szálloda (Hotel to the English Queen) where the restaurant ’’Bunda” (furcoat) provided the invironment the poet had a penchant for spending his evenings in, in 1896-97. Resting on the foundations of the close twin-city relations between the two cities, the cultural institutions of Debrecen and Nagyvárad (Oradea) wish to bow before the poet on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, as well as the joint programme events held in the spirit of the anniversary. Participating in the organization of the commemorative programme are the State Philharmony of Oradea, the Szigligeti Theatre, the Journal ’’Várad” the Ady Endre Liceum on the one hand, and the Méliusz Juhász Péter Municipal Library of Debrecen, the Déri Museum and the Museum of the Debrecen Reformed College, on the other.
