Farmer Expo to open: Three hundred exhibitors in Debrecen
With the participation of three hundred exhibitors the largest agricultural and food industry special expo in the Eastern part of Hungary opened in Debrecen on Thursday.
At the exhibition that takes place inside the Böszörményi Road Campus of Debrecen University, Mr. István Nagy, Cabinet Minister for agriculture, spoke about the significance of developing irrigation technology, which he identified as within the interest of all farmers and all the Hungarian citizenry. He announced that a ten-year maturity exceptionally low-interest lawn is being prepared for the materialisation of the planned development projects. Over the interim period until the farmers get subventions from the sources of the new EU cycle. Prof. Zoltán Szilvássy, president of Debrecen University pointed out the significance of cooperation and joined forces of agriculture and science. While Mr. László Papp, mayor of Debrecen, said although a great deal of industrial development investment had occurred in the city of Debrecen in the past five years, one cannot disregard the fact that Debrecen is located in the heart of the best arable soil areas in Hungary. It is therefore important and timely that the water management programme which will greatly benefit the local farmers and the ecology of the city should come to materialization as soon as possible. It is our initiative that we start carrying out the irrigation programme of Debrecen and her region as early as the next EU development cycle. – added Mr. László Papp.
