Increased potential for scientific research
It has become possible to have a Tandetron-type particle-accelarator entirely constructed at the MTA (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Nuclear Research Institute (ATOMKI), which is used in several basic or applied research – e.g. physical, medical, archeological, etc. – fields out of a subsidy of 941.25 million HUF. The ceremonial closing event of the project was held on May 27, 2019.
At the press conference on the occasion of closing the project, Mr. Lajos Barcsa, deputy mayor of Debrecen, emphasized: Debrecen is endeavouring to establish her leading role in the region in all aspects of life. Apart from the institutions maintained by the Borough of Debrecen, the state-run ones also pursue the same course: Debrecen is to attain her leading position in the field of communication and trasportation by means of linking up to the network of Motorways and her international airport. A very important role is attached to education in Debrecen which research activities also rely on through the good offices of Debrecen University, for example. The knowledge base of the University proudly furnishes the foundations upon which science and economy may also rest - is strategic partner with the Borough of Debrecen in all development efforts. Debrecen is proud of the fact that, for over sixty years now, ATOMKI has been contributing to enhancing her good name internationally. The development of the two-phase porticle-accelerator is going to attract such international projects to Debrecen which will result in strengthening the name of Debrecen and Hungary as a whole, alike.
