In order to contain the further spread of the coronavirus epidemic, the Great Forest Park including the Frog Pond and surrounded by a fence, as well as the Five Acre Wood playground will be closed to visitors by its maintainer, the Municipality of Debrecen from 10 April 2020. Parallel to the restrictions, increased public space surveillance will be ordered around the Great Forest Stadium.
With the cooperation of the city and the university, a spiritual health telephone service called „We are together” has been launched to provide spiritual assistance to citizens of Debrecen who are in need in these difficult times, due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Mayor László Papp brought Easter surprise gifts to the employees of the Family and Child Welfare Centre as well as to the colleagues of the call centre on 8 April 2020. Easter meat packages were given to those who have been assisting locals in difficulty due to the coronavirus for weeks.
Another supply of disinfectants arrived at the New City Hall of Debrecen on 7 April 2020, which will be passed on to companies, cultural, social, family support and educational institutions in municipal ownership, and also within the Mayor’s Office, in a scheduled method.
Debrecen Charity Board and Roteka civil organisation joined their forces to support families who cannot afford to pay for the material conditions of digital education from home.
Mayor László Papp announced that a support fund with a 20-million-HUF starting amount has been launched in Debrecen to support families who found themselves in difficulty due to the coronavirus epidemic. Several companies and private individuals joined the initiative. Business leaders of the Chinese community in Hungary also offered their help.
The Hungarian Government issued a regulation on restrictions on movement, which entered into force on Saturday, 28 March 2020, and shall terminate on Saturday, 11 April 2020. It means that the restrictions will last for two weeks.
On Tuesday morning, 24 March 2020, one thousand plastic bottles of antiviral liquid hand sanitizer arrived at the City Hall of Debrecen.
