Memorial plaque to honour ambulance workers
A memorial plaque was mounted and inaugurated at no. 28 Péterfia street on May 3, 2019, by the National Ambulance Service in order to commemorate and honour the service of ambulance medic Dr. István Derekassy, who established the first organized ambulance service in Debrecen as early as September 01, 1906, and also his fellow ambulacemen; as well as to commemorate the creation of the ambulance station in that building in Debrecen on July 01, 1950.
Ms. Diána Széles, deputy mayor of Debrecen, emphasized in her complimentary speech that Debrecen has always been strong thanks to the strong local community made up of people ready to their utmost for their community. The memorial plaque commemorates the personality of Dr. István Derekassy, who did much in his own professional field for the citizens in this Borough. The calling of an ambulanceman is such that may require him/her to live two or three years in the stretch of one year and few can cope with this task. Therefore ambulancemen are people that Debrecen citizens can very well be proud of.
