Teaching may start at the renovated building of the Music School of Debrecen
The Kodály Zoltán Musical Secondary School celebrated the renovation of its building with a concert on October 01, 2019.
It was in December 1861 that the first such music school in Hungary was founded on the initiative of Mr. Ferenc Farkas, a Debrecen ironmonger and music lover and by means of his remarkable pecuniary contribution to be joined by many others in Debrecen where training was conducted solely in the Hungarian language. The school started operating in 1862. The present building of the Music School (Zenede) had been built by 1894 and its present eclectic Italian neo-renaissance appearance was shaped at the time of adding a storey to the building in 1927. The Institution – the Kodály Zoltán Musical Secondary School – Basic Level Art School – has been bearing its name since the famous composer gave his consent to it in 1957. Nowadays the school provides excellent professional background to elementary, secondary and higher-level music education as well as both professional and amateur choirs.
