The 28th Festum Varadinum to start
Debrecen is again going to take part in the colourful gathering of Festum Varadinum of Nagyvárad (Oradea). The cooperation between the cultural institutions of the two cities is steadily gaining intensity.
It is now for the 28th time the Festum Varadinum is to take place, a series of events between May 5 and 18, 2019, which has by now become a time-honoured series of events of the Hungarian Community in Transylvania. Ms. Zita Vadnai Koncsek, chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Varadinum Cultural Foundation, emphasized at the press-conference in Nagyvárad (Oradea) on May 2, 2019, announcing the series of events: This series of events has the mission to pool Hungarians of all age-groups and strenghten their sense of community. The Festum Varadinum does not only belong to Nagyvárad (Oradea), for both cities and primarily their cultural institutions share in the events. Debrcen’s part in the events was highlighted by Mr. Szabolcs Komolay, deputy mayor of Debrecen, responsible for cultural affairs, and Mr. Ödön Szabó, MP and Managing president of the Bihor County (Romania) Chapter of the Romániai Magyar Demokrata Szövetség (RMDSZ) spoke in greater detail about the programmes, saying, among other things, that this year the Festival (Festum Varadinum) is made up of several segments which are of remarkable importance in and by themselves; a theatrical- and film-festival, a student festival, and also a three-day fair of May replete with light-music concerts.
