The 90th Festive Week of Books and the 18th Days of Children’s Books
The programmes of the Festive Week of Books, were organized by the Méliusz Juhász Péter Municipal Library between June 12 and 16, however, there had been programmes prior to that week and even following it.
A press-meeting was held in the Library on June 07, 2019, on the topic of the Festive Week of Books and its programmes in Debrecen with the participation of Mr. Szabolcs Komolay, deputy mayor of Debrecen responsible for cultural affairs and Mr. Péter Szirák, the curator of the event, and Mr. Péter Pogrányi, the coordinator of the programmes of the Week of Books in Debrecen. The first statements were, of course, about remembrance, for, as Mr. Szabolcs Komolay pointed out, the eminent poet, prose-writer and literary translator, a most characteristic figure of contemporary Hungarian literature, the Debrecen-born and bred János Térey, passed away on June 03, 2019. He had been a trustee of the foundation that published the literary journal Alföld. He, however, was also such a civis (Citizen of Debrecen) individual who had never wished to shed his Debrecen civis character. His passing is an irreparable loss for Hungarian literature as a whole and and for Debrecen in particular.
