This year’s recipients of the prizes awarded for contributing to the cultural life of Debrecen
The prizes for contributions to the cultural life of Debrecen on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture as well as the scholarships for creative at work were awarded in the Munkácsy Room of the Déri Museum on January 22, 2019. As part of the ceremonial event, the Municipality of Debrecen took into possession officially the vast canvas of Mihály Munkácsy’s paintig titled „Golgota”.
The „For the Culture of Debrecen” prize was received by Ms. Judit Váradi, pianist and the artistic leaders, Ms. Zsuzsa Tiszai and Mr. Bálint Lovas, of the Debrecen Hajdú Folk-dance Ensemble. Scholarships for creative art activity were presented to Ms. Judit Czövek, folklorist; Mr. Bulcsú Éles, graphic artist, Mrs. Árpád Kiss, cloak and lace trimmer; Ms. L. Ágnes Mikecz ethnographer as well as Ms. Erzsébet Wrábel, creative artist and craftswoman. The Municipality of Debrecen officially took possession of the painting „Golgota” by Mihály Munkácsy, having been purchased by the state of Hungary. The former owner of the painting, Mr. Imre Pákh said in Debrecen that he had always endeavoured to keep the „Christ Trilogy” by Munkácsy together as a set.
