WREATHING CEREMONIES ON THE NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING IN MEMORY OF THE SUPPRESSION OF THE 1956 REVOLUTION
The Municipality of Debrecen organized wreathing ceremonies on 4 November 2019, the national day of mourning over the suppression of the revolution, in memory of the heroic dead of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight.
At the memorial places – memorial plaques, monuments, military cemetery – representatives of the local and county municipalities, armed forces, civil and social organizations and of political parties placed their wreaths of mourning. Counsellor Szabolcs Komolay delivered a memorial speech at the monument in the public cemetery. As he worded, the heroes and victims of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight gave their lives when their homeland demanded it. At a moment when we had to stare a much stronger force in the face. This is how 4 November became one of the saddest days of our history, the day of remembering when we commemorate the heroes and victims of the suppression of the 1956 revolution.
